Frequently asked questions

Is CyberRank free to use?
Yes, completely free. Create an account, solve challenges, and climb the ranking — no subscription required. Some premium events may have optional entry fees in the future.
Do I need a university email to register?
No — any email works. However, to be counted in your university's ranking, you need to link your profile to your institution in your settings. University email verification may be added in a future update.
How are flags validated?
Each challenge has a single static flag configured by challenge authors. Submissions are validated with a constant-time comparison for security.
How long do Docker instances run?
Instances automatically expire after 60 minutes. You can restart them at any time. Only one active instance per challenge per user is allowed.
Can I submit my own challenges?
Yes! Any registered user can submit community challenges. They go through a moderation review before being published. Accepted challenges permanently credit you as the author.
What happens when more people solve a challenge?
Challenge point values decay dynamically as more players solve them. The formula is public: max(min_pts, base_pts - (solvers - 1) × decay). First Blood earns the full base points regardless of later solves.
